A4: Learning in Our Own Voice: Language, Culture & Identity in African Digital Education (EN) Schedule: 14:30 – 16:30 Event Leaders: Irene Elorm Hatsu Fiebor, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Ghana Philip Makafui Ankah, KAIPTC, Ghana Bernice Christabel Cobbinah, KAIPTC, Ghana Description: This session examines how African digital learning can be decolonised by centering language, culture, and identity in course design. Using examples from my work creating culturally grounded digital training for peace and security institutions, We will share insights and best practices on designing learning that speaks to African realities. The session will be discussion-based and highly engaging, inviting participants to reflect on their own contexts and experiences rather than engaging in hands-on technical exercises. Together, we will explore how digital platforms can support multilingual learning, honour cultural narratives, and strengthen identity, ensuring that digital education in Africa is not only accessible, but deeply authentic and rooted in our own voice. Participants will engage in guided conversations about how digital learning can move beyond imported models to authentically represent African realities. The session will offer concrete recommendations that institutions can adopt to make their digital learning culturally aligned and responsive to multilingual contexts.
