Mama Omorou

Ministère des enseignements primaire, secondaire, technique et de l’artisanat · Togo

Biography

Hon. Prof Mama Omorou is the current Minister of National Education of the Togolese Republic, responsible for three sub-sectors of the education system: general primary and secondary education, technical education and vocational training, and higher education and research.

Mr Mama Omorou is a civil engineering design engineer, entrepreneur, accomplished scientist and educator. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in the fields of construction, infrastructure, and scientific and technical training.

A specialist in geographic information systems (GIS) and georeferenced database management systems, an expert in environmental and social impact assessments, and a transport economist, he has supported various African and international organisations in the planning and implementation of major structural projects. Recognised for his commitment to education and sustainable development, he supports several initiatives aimed at training and establishing sustainable infrastructure in Africa.

Before joining the government in October 2025, he headed Groupe ILO S.A., a company active in the fields of construction and public works, real estate, manufacturing, and financial services. He is also the founder of Groupe Scientifique SIGMA (GS-SIGMA), an organisation dedicated to promoting scientific and technological excellence among young Africans.

Mr Omorou has more than 23 years of experience in higher and technical education. He taught at the Regional Training Centre for Road Maintenance (CERFER) from 2003 to 2017, and at the African School of Architecture and Urban Planning (EAMAU) from 2006 to 2009. From 2018 to 2025, he continued his educational engagement at GS-SIGMA.

By establishing Togo’s only science college, the country’s first private lycée of scientific excellence, and its first scientific preparatory class, he laid the foundations for an unprecedented educational ambition. The reversal of the girls-to-boys ratio in both enrolment and results reflects a model in which equality, rigour and scientific advancement converge.

Since taking office, he has focused on improving the quality of the Togolese education system, strengthening participatory governance in the sector, and promoting science, industrial pathways, digital technology and literary culture through the co-construction of a high-performing and inclusive education system.
