Biography
Dr Ishmael Magare is Head of Department and Lecturer in Teacher Education at the Botswana Open University. He obtained his PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Pretoria in 2023, building upon advanced qualifications in remedial education, special needs, and research psychology. With over three decades of experience in Botswana’s education system, he has worked as a teacher, school head, senior lecturer, and academic leader. His research concentrates on teacher development, inclusive education, student well-being, and digital pedagogy. Dr. Magare has secured significant grants, including leading the project "Professional Learning Communities Using Technology to Enhance Standard Four Mathematics Teaching in Gaborone Primary Schools" (2025–2026). As an emerging scholar, he has published in international journals, with recent work on socio-demographic factors in online education and the reliability of well-being scales in distance learning. His leadership and scholarship continue to influence education policy and practice in Botswana and across sub-Saharan Africa.
