Biography

Dr Tamara Phiri is a specialist physician at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and clinical lecturer at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi.

She holds visiting lectureships at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Bernard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Germany, and Karolinska Institute in Sweden. 

She is passionate about medical education and has actively led the commencement of specialist physician training in Malawi.

She is the founder of MedInAfrica - a digital learning platform to provide context-appropriate electronic learning resources for medical students. Key to its success has been the dissemination of learning content and engagement with students using social media.

She has been featured by various media including CNN. She is a recipient of the 2021 Presidential Award for excellence and outstanding service in the health sector accorded by Malawi president, Dr Lazarus Chakwera.
