Biography
Dr Samira ElAtia is a Professor of Education and Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at the Faculté Saint-Jean, University of Alberta.
She specialises in competency evaluation and language assessment, with a particular emphasis on bias and fairness in assessment—especially within bilingual contexts.
Dr ElAtia's extensive expertise has led her to act as a subject matter expert for numerous international testing bodies, including Educational Testing Services, Duolingo, and Michigan Assessment in the United States; Pearson Education and the Language Resource Network in the United Kingdom; the International Baccalaureate Organisation; the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and the Centre international d'études pédagogiques of the French Ministry of Education, as well as the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates. She is also a former President of the Canadian Association of Language Assessment.
Dr ElAtia holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MA from Illinois State University.
