Biography

Rebecca Awuah is a Mathematics Lecturer at Ashesi University and Director of the Giving Voice to Values Africa Project through the Education Collaborative. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Evergreen State College, a Master In Teaching degree from Seattle University, USA and is currently a doctoral student in Comparative and International Education at the University of Minnesota, USA. She has taught mathematics at different levels for more than 20 years. Since joining the faculty of Ashesi University in 2008, she has worked to develop innovative mathematics curricula that emphasize problem-solving, real-world application, and the use of technology. She led a collaborative effort to adapt the Giving Voice to Values curriculum to the Ghanaian undergraduate context and has spearheaded faculty training and efforts to increase writing and critical thinking across the curriculum. Research areas include a longitudinal household survey of Berekuso assessing changes in Ashesi’s host community over time, the impact of student community service on students’ leadership competencies, and statistics education. She is Board Chair of the Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II Education Fund.
