Ambassador of The Republic of the Gambia to the Swiss Confederation & UN Representative · Gambia

Biography

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of The Gambia to the Swiss Confederation and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, the WTO and other international organizations in Switzerland and Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology and former Vice-Chancellor (Rector), University of The Gambia.

He served as Chairman of the Africa Group of Ambassadors at Geneva (April 2021- to September 2021) and is the Vice President (Africa) for the United Nations Human Rights Council. He was the Founding Chairman of Zenith Bank, The Gambia and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Africa Consulting & Trading Group (ACT), Dakar, Senegal. He was Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia (UTG) from 2009- 2015, before which he also spent 4 years in Nigeria as the Founding Dean of the School of IT and Computing at the American University of Nigeria (AUN). He was also Professor and the Founding Dean of the School of Information Technology & Engineering at ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijan (2015-2017). He was made an Honorary Fellow of the Judge Business School and the Digital Innovation Centre at the University of Cambridge (2016-2017). 

He completed his BSc, MSc. and Ph.D. at the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. He holds a Master of Science in Finance (Financial Engineering) from George Washington University, Washington, DC and a Postgraduate Diploma (Dip SI) in Strategy and Innovation from the Said Business School, University of Oxford, UK. He has completed several Executive Education and Corporate Governance Programmes, including the International Directors Programme (IDP) at INSEAD.
