Michel Toto

Biography

Michel Toto, a seasoned diplomat appointed to the United Republic of Tanzania in June 2022 as Head of Office and UNESCO Representative, brings over twenty years of international experience in the field of multilateral cooperation.

Mr Toto (Cameroon) joined the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1999, holding positions as Communication Officer, Deputy Liaison Officer, Liaison Officer, and Chief of the Section for Cooperation with Member States in the Africa Department of UNESCO until 2011. Prior to his appointment to the United Republic of Tanzania, Mr Toto served as UNESCO’s Chief of Protocol (from 2011 to 2022) in Paris and Introducer of Ambassadors to the Director-General, providing regular support and guidance to the 193 permanent delegations accredited to UNESCO.

Mr Toto joined the UNESCO Office in the United Republic of Tanzania at a crucial stage in the start of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, supporting the advancement of national priorities for sustainable development through UNESCO’s core mandates – Education, Natural Sciences, Culture, Social Sciences, and Communication and Information.

Mr Michel Toto holds a Master’s degree in International Law and International Relations. He is married with three children.
