Biography
Dr Janeth Emmanuel Kigobe is a Senior Lecturer, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Co-Chair of the UNESCO Chair on Teacher Education and Curriculum at the Open University of Tanzania. She is a recognised leader in curriculum transformation across Africa, having contributed to national and regional reforms in countries such as Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Laos. Dr Kigobe is deeply engaged in research on child well-being, mental health, school attendance, and parental involvement, anchoring her work in educational psychology and inclusive education frameworks.
A passionate advocate for responsible and transformative use of Artificial Intelligence in education, Dr Kigobe has initiated high-level collaborations with UNESCO Chairs in Switzerland and Malaysia to build AI capacity for Tanzanian educators and students. She is also convening the upcoming African Stakeholders’ Summit on AI in Education, aimed at shaping ethical, context-responsive AI policies for the continent. Through her combined efforts in research, curriculum reform, and digital innovation, Dr Kigobe continues to shape equitable and forward-looking education systems in Tanzania and beyond.
