Biography

Professor Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah is an accomplished Electrical and Electronic Engineer and Digital Education leader, registered as a Professional Engineer with the Ghana Institution of Engineers (PE-GhIE). He is a  Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering and currently serves as the Director of the E-Learning Centre at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he leads the University’s digital teaching and learning initiatives.

He holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering and an MSc in Broadband and Mobile Communication Networks from the University of Kent, UK, and a BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from KNUST. His academic training combines strong foundations in engineering with expertise in Digital and Communication Technologies. Prof. Akowuah has held several senior academic leadership roles at KNUST, including Head of the Department of Computer Engineering and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering. As the University’s ICT Consultant, he played a key role in driving KNUST’s institutional digital transformation, leading the implementation of enterprise solutions for teaching, learning, and administration.

With over 15 years of experience, his expertise spans digital infrastructure, enterprise systems, secure networks, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. His research interests include digital communication systems, intelligent systems, and technology-enabled innovation, with publications in reputable international journals. He is a recipient of the 2009 IEEE UK/RI Communications Chapter MSc Prize at the University of Kent, UK.

In addition to his academic work, Prof. Akowuah has extensive industry experience as a consultant, delivering digital platforms, enterprise solutions, and technology-driven systems across multiple sectors. In his current role, he actively collaborates with EdTech companies, technology partners, and development organisations to co-design, pilot, and scale digital learning solutions, positioning KNUST as a trusted EdTech innovation partner in Ghana and the wider West African region.
