Biography

Elizabeth Sylvester Mkoba (PhD) is a Lecturer and Researcher at the School of Computational, Communication Science and Engineering, Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Tanzania. Elizabeth possesses expertise and experience in a range of areas, including Ethics in AI, AI Governance, the development and implementation of Digital Technologies, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity Governance, Corporate Governance, Risk Management, and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues.

Her research interests include AI Governance and Ethics, Cybersecurity Governance and Risk Management, Project Management, IT Project Management Audit and Assurance, ESG and Sustainability, as well as the application of emerging technologies across various sectors.

Elizabeth holds several board positions as a Board Director, including at CRDB Bank Burundi S.A., the Association of Commonwealth Leadership Conferences, Canada, the Commonwealth Study Conference Global Alumni Inc., UK, and The Duke of Edinburgh's Commonwealth Study Conference Africa (CSC Africa). She serves as Deputy Chair for CSC Africa, South Africa.

She is an Expert Mentor for the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation’s Inspiring Minds Mentorship Programme for global early-career researchers in Mathematics and Computer Science in Germany and Austria. She also mentors PhD and Master’s students at NM-AIST.

Elizabeth is a member of several professional organisations, including the IEEE Computer Society (USA), DAMA – International Data Management Community (USA), ICT Commission (Tanzania), International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) (Canada), Project Management South Africa, Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA), and the South African Institute for Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT).

She has been a Global Alumni Member of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Global Leaders Commonwealth Study Conference (UK) since 2007.

Elizabeth earned her BSc in Computer Science from Osmania University, India; MSc in Computer Science from Central South University, China; MBA from the Open University of Tanzania; and PhD in Information Technology Management from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She also completed a three-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
