Biography

Dimitrios Noukakis holds a Diploma in Chemistry (1986) and a PhD (1991) from the University of Fribourg. From 1991 to 1995 he was research associate at the “Kodak Corporate Research Laboratories” (Rochester, USA), the “Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), and at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne – EPFL.  In 2002, he received an MBA from the Business School of Lausanne. Previously, he worked as a publisher for Elsevier (1995-2000) and co-founded FontisMedia and N!light, two companies providing marketing and communication services (2000-2005) for the scientific community.

He joined EPFL in 2005 to design and implement strategies for the international development of EPFL's graduate programmes. As part of the International Relations, he developed international academic partnerships and represented EPFL in several academic networks. Since 2013, he joined EPFL's Center for Digital Education to launch and manage the programme “MOOCs for Africa”, an initiative aiming to promote innovative teaching methods in Africa with the help of MOOCs.

His current interests include the promotion of inter-institutional collaboration in higher education through e-learning platforms and the implementation of blended learning methodologies in higher education, with a special focus on the African context.
