Colin Venter

Biography

Born into a Deaf-dominant family, Sign Language became Colin's primary mode of communication from an early age, shaping his worldview and igniting his passion for advocacy and education.

Colin's educational journey culminated in 2016 when he earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Wits University in Johannesburg, South Africa. Armed with a solid educational foundation, Colin transitioned into a pivotal role at eDeaf, a service and training provider dedicated to empowering Deaf individuals. Here, he spearheaded the e-learning department, Deaf individuals to obtain essential skills and prepare for the workforce with Sign Language as a medium of instruction.

Colin pursued his Master's of Science Degree in Education Technologies and Instructional Design from MIA Digital University in Barcelona, graduating in 2022. Equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and expertise, Colin currently oversees operations across four campuses in South Africa, with a student body exceeding 1,000 individuals accessing the eLearning platform.

Furthermore, Colin's impact extends to the digital realm, where he and his team developed the Basic SASL Online Course, a groundbreaking initiative designed to make South African Sign Language accessible to hearing & Deaf users through the online platform, breaking down barriers to communication and fostering inclusivity.

Colin's journey is a testament to resilience, dedication, and a profound commitment to empowering the Deaf community creating a more inclusive society.
