Biography

Caroline Wamala Larsson is an Associate Professor in Gender Studies and is heading the research program at the Swedish Program for ICT in Developing Regions (SPIDER), at Stockholm University. Caroline, has collaborated with colleagues at SPIDER to develop SPIDER's research programme, which is a unique concept that connects research to practice.

Located in the Gender and Technology discipline, Wamala-Larsson’s research focuses on the use of ICT4D and gender as a point of analysis in ICT4D use. Her research acknowledges the mutual construction of gender and technology, contributing a deeper understanding of the cultural embeddedness of ICT. Her latest publications include: Situated empowerment: Mobile phones practices among market women in Kampala. Mobile Media & Communication,  (2016). 4(2), 205-220. “Theater, Gender, and Development: Merging Traditional and New Media to Address Communication Challenges in Uganda” that appeared in Signs 39(4), 2014. Wamala-Larsson edited (2015) together with other colleagues a volume on Mobile Participation: Access, Interaction and Practices published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing.
