Biography

Bahana Mirindi Hydrogene is a trailblazing advocate and leader dedicated to empowering refugees and promoting meaningful participation in humanitarian efforts and decision-making. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1995, Bahana currently resides in  Kenya. His remarkable journey includes being honored with the Europe Region UNHCR Volunteer Service Award for his exceptional contributions to UNHCR's work on meaningful participation.

Bahana holds an Associate Degree in Computer Science and boasts certifications in Project Management, Digital Marketing, and Social Selling among others. As the first refugee to work with UNHCR Geneva as a United Nations Volunteer, he has demonstrated his commitment to fostering meaningful refugee engagement and dedication to advancing the cause of refugees. Additionally, Bahana serves as a Group Leader at StepUp.one, an enterprise dedicated to re-skilling refugees into digital professionals and linking them with global opportunities.

A World Economic Forum Global Shaper, Bahana's expertise spans, leadership, project management, social media marketing, and advocating for democratizing access to digital skills and employment for displaced youth. He firmly believes in the inherent right to access skills and employment opportunities for all individuals.

Bahana is the Founder and Executive Director of Solidarity Initiative for Refugees, a refugee-led organization, dedicated to empowering refugees and locals through innovative programs and advocacy efforts that enhance their access to quality education, and dignified livelihood opportunities. 

In addition to his professional endeavors, Bahana is a devoted father to three beautiful children and an avid reader. His passion for empowering others and advocating for social change continues to inspire and drive positive transformation in refugee communities globally.
