Alain Court

International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) · Switzerland

Biography

Alain Court is currently head of Learning Solutions Unit at the International committee of Red Cross (ICRC), with his team his core mission is to analyze, develop and implement the best possible learning solutions adapted to the situations of armed conflict faced by ICRC staff around the world (currently more than 18 000 employees in 80 countries).
With nearly 165 different professions, this mission involves the use of various pedagogical approaches and to employ various technologies in order to best meet the needs of the field.

After 10 years in a computer services company during which he had the opportunity to develop his passion for training and his skills in the field. With the desire to focus more on training, he then worked for 10 years as a freelance trainer in the field of multimedia, web design and project management.
During this period, he developed various hybrid approaches to best meet the needs of his customers. He confirmed and formalized this orientation towards learning technologies through a Master's degree at the University of Geneva (Master of Science in Learning and Teaching Technologies - MALTT).

From there, he advised many companies in the field of distance learning before joining the ICRC in 2010 as a consultant for distance learning in the Assistance division before taking charge in 2014 the Learning Solutions unit within the Learning and Development division.

One of his current learning concerns is how to bridge the digital divide in learning, whether due to technical, organizational, cultural or personal constraints. In this context, the use of open source technologies seems to be one of the ways to develop learning opportunities for the greatest number in a sustainable way.
