Biography
Nathan Karanja is a Principal Lecturer at the Kenya School of Government, specialising in digital learning, human resource development, and the integration of technology in public-sector capacity building. He has over 17 years of professional experience spanning government training institutions and humanitarian operations. Nathan’s work focuses on eLearning development, instructional design, curriculum development, and digital skilling for adult learners. At the Kenya School of Government, he has played a key role in expanding digital training programmes, digitising learning content, and supporting national initiatives that strengthen public-sector digital capabilities. He contributed to the establishment of the Regional Centre of Competence for Digital and Artificial Intelligence Skilling (RCOC), a multi-agency effort aimed at enhancing digital and AI readiness across the public service.
Nathan has collaborated with government ministries, development partners, and international organisations in projects related to digital transformation, data protection training, records and archival management, and the implementation of Learning Management Systems. His work has supported public officers across Kenya and participants from several African countries through World Bank–supported capacity-building programmes. He holds an MBA in Management Information Systems, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Instructional Design and Technology, a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Nathan’s professional interests lie in digital learning strategy, public-sector skilling, and the development of context-appropriate approaches to emerging technologies in government.
