Biography
María Paula Piñeros M is a legal expert and policy professional specializing in digital labor rights, skills development, and the future of work. She is a Hertie Public Policy Fellow working with the GIZ Global Gig Economy Initiative, where she supports the development of e-learning and skills training measures for platform workers. Many of these tools are being piloted in high growth countries like Kenya, Ghana, India and South Africa.
With her background in law from Bogotá, Colombia, Maria brings a unique perspective on how digital platforms can leverage the power of collaboration between technology, data, and education. By engaging institutional partners to develop e-learning strategies, Maria is helping inform platform workers about digital careers—ensuring they not only navigate digital platforms effectively but also secure fair working conditions.
She strongly believes that technology should be a force for good and that e-learning and upskilling are key to building a fairer future of work. In this context, innovative tools—such as data-driven upskilling platforms that help online freelancers identify the most relevant skills for staying competitive—showcase the power of collaboration between technology, data, and education. These advancements serve as a model for how we should continue working to create more inclusive and sustainable opportunities in the digital economy.
