Biography
Dr Leonard Nduwayo is born in Giti-Byumba (Rwanda). After his medical studies in the National University of Rwanda, Faculty of Medicine in Butare, he practiced medicine in Rwanda during five years from 1986 to 1990. He leaved his country in 1990 to pursue a medical specialization in Endocrinology and Metabolism in France.
Specialist in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Tours, and in biomedical engineering at the University of Paris VI, he has a certificate of coordinator of therapeutic education projects (IREPS, Reims).
He practiced medicine in France in the University Hospital of Tours and in different general hospitals up to now. He published twenty eight scientific papers and seven books.
Hospital Doctor, Head of the Department of prevention and therapeutic education in non communicable diseases (NCD), he has also a private medical office in Paris and Creil city in France.
Medical contributor on BBC Wold Service, he is also Consultant in Clinique du Plateau in Kigali (Rwanda).
His research interests focus : Thyroid diseases, diabetes and new technologies in diabetes care, obesity, telemedicine and e-learning in health field.
Hospital Doctor, Head of the Department of prevention and therapeutic education and Medical Chief of the Unit of Endocrinology and Diabetology in Senlis Hospital (France), he teached Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nephrology in the Training Institute in Nursing Care of Saint Dizier from 2002 to 2020.
Active member of the French Endocrine Society and French Diabetes Society, he is current president of the French African Association for Research and Medical Innovation (AFRIMED) and the African Institute of Training and Research Georges-Henri Levesque (AITR-GHL). The motto of AITR-GHL that aims at promoting telemedicine and e-teaching/learning in African diaspora is “Together, connect our brains for the development of Africa”.
