Biography
Dr. Gordon Ocholla is an environmental scientist working as a lecturer at Mount Kenya University in Kenya where he coordinates postgraduate research matters and has previously worked as the departmental eLearning coordinator in the School of Social Sciences. He has keen interests in research, training, and policy analysis in areas of water & sanitation, climate change, blue economy, and environmental risk assessment. He holds a PhD in Environmental Planning & Management from Kenyatta University in Kenya. The PhD was sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship and a research grant from the British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA).
As part of his doctoral studies, he had research fellowship stints at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) in Switzerland, and University of Bayreuth in Germany. He also attended a Summer School organized by the Department of Human Geography, Goethe-University Frankfurt, Germany.
Dr. Ocholla has also worked as a consultant / researcher with various local and international organizations such as USAID/RTI International, Earthwatch Institute, Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), Nairobi City County Government and Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI).
Through his over 10 years’ professional interactions, he has gained practical experience in engaging government agencies, civil society organizations, political leaders, and local communities in pursuit of sustainable development goals. His current focus is to apply his expertise in mentoring learners and sensitizing society towards the realization of Agenda 2063 of the Africa We Want - Particularly Goal #7 (environmentally sustainable and climate resilient economies).
