Biography
Edward Ishaku is a seasoned humanitarian and education leader with over a decade of experience driving transformative change in conflict-affected regions of Northeast and Northwest Nigeria. His career has been defined by a steadfast commitment to improving access to quality education in some of the world’s most challenging humanitarian contexts. Currently serving as the Education Technical Coordinator for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Nigeria, Edward provides strategic oversight across multiple education projects, ensuring alignment with global standards and fostering strong stakeholder collaboration. His leadership has been instrumental in mentoring multidisciplinary teams, conducting field assessments, and advocating for inclusive education policies that uplift vulnerable communities. Edward’s work is deeply rooted in the realities of Nigeria’s education crisis, particularly in the BAY states (Borno, Adamawa, Yobe), where millions of children remain out of school and teachers face overwhelming challenges due to under-resourcing, lack of sufficient training and insecurity. In response, Edward has championed innovative solutions like aprendIA Nigeria, an AI-powered chatbot designed to deliver personalized mentorship and continuous professional development to teachers via WhatsApp. This groundbreaking initiative leverages mobile technology to empower educators in low-resource, low-bandwidth environments, providing solutions that can grow and adapt to meet increasing needs, especially in situations where older, conventional methods are no longer effective or accessible.
