Biography
Christian Thiam is a Senegalese filmmaker, educator, and advocate for knowledge-sharing in the digital age. After completing his education in the United States, Thiam gained invaluable experience through an internship with renowned filmmaker Spike Lee. This formative period laid the groundwork for his dual focus on creative storytelling and empowering future generations through education.
Upon his return to Senegal, Thiam applied his expertise in academia, teaching filmmaking at the Institut Sup’Imax de Dakar. As a lecturer and researcher at the Université Numérique Cheikh Hamidou Kane (UNCHK), and a part-time lecturer at Université Gaston Berger (UGB), he has played a key role in shaping curricula that bridge traditional storytelling with modern digital audiovisual production techniques. Thiam is currently working on a doctoral thesis exploring the theme of national cinema and the construction of citizenship in Senegal.
Thiam’s commitment to education goes beyond the classroom. Certified by Google in YouTube Audience Building, he has led professional training seminars across West Africa, equipping content creators with the skills to effectively reach audiences and share their stories on a global scale.
His passion for education is matched by his dedication to documenting real-life experiences, as reflected in his documentary films such as Samba Kane: Life in Prison and Casa Di Mansa.
By combining hands-on training with a commitment to storytelling, Thiam continues to inspire a new generation of filmmakers to use their craft as a vehicle for social change and cultural preservation.
