Biography
Professor Nelson Ijumba is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research at the University of Rwanda, responsible for institutional strategic development in research and innovation. He is also an Honorary Professor of Electrical Engineering, at the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. He graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and obtained his Masters and Doctoral degrees from the Universities of Salford and Strathclyde (United Kingdom), respectively. He is a Senior Member of the Southern African Institution of Electrical Engineers, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Professor Ijumba is a Member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa and a Fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa and a Chartered Engineer of the United Kingdom Engineering Council. He has over 40 years of experience in teaching, research, consulting and academic leadership. His research interests are in the areas of high voltage and power systems, impact of technologies on sustainable development and translation of research outputs into socially relevant innovative products. He has published widely and made presentations at international and local conferences.
