Biography
Jakita O. Thomas is a Philpott Westpoint Stevens Associate Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Auburn University and Director of the CUltuRally & SOcially Relevent (CURSOR) Computing Lab. Her research interests include exploring the development of computational algorithmic thinking, intersectional computing, promoting access to healthcare information for under-served populations, and complex cognitive skills learning. She received a Bachelor of Science in Computer & Information Science from Spelman College (1999). Dr. Thomas was conferred a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA(2006). Prior to her current position, Dr. Thomas was a member of the CIS faculty at Spelman College and a Research Staff Member at IBM Research - Almaden. Dr. Thomas is a recipient of the National Science Foundation's Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
