Biography
Gavin Weale is an award-winning social entrepreneur and the founder of Digify Africa, a company that helps young people in Africa benefit from the digital economy with skills, jobs and work opportunities.
Digify Africa has trained over 500,000 young people in critical digital skills, leading to thousands of livelihoods being created. Working with partners including Meta Platforms, UK Aid, the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, Digify has won multiple awards for innovation and transformation. In 2019 Digify Africa launched the Digibot, one of the world’s first automated WhatsApp chatbot courses, which now has hundreds of thousands of active users from low income backgrounds learning basic digital skills.
In 2010 Gavin won the UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur Award for his work on Live Magazine UK; and in early 2011, he was awarded a Shuttleworth Foundation Fellowship, and moved to South Africa, where he is now based.
