Biography

Rev Dr Alice Barlow-Zambodla comes from a multi-disciplinary background and has more than 24 years of research and lecturing experience in Higher Education (Agriculture, Biology, Botany, Science Education with a focus on eLearning) and more recently 12 years of Research and Development experience in the Non-profit sector (project management, academic programme development and implementation). She has a PhD (Botany Education) and a BSc Honours (Agriculture) specialising in Crop Science.

At present she works with Conservation South Africa (CSA) as Landscape Director in the uMzimvubu River Catchment situated in the Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany Hotspot. Conservation South Africa, a local affiliate of Conservation International is a non-profit organization committed to helping rural communities living in biodiversity hotspots become more resilient and able to adopt a more sustainable approach to development in the face of climate change. Her role involves strategic planning and multi-sectoral stakeholder engagement, as well as management and oversight of CSA staff implementing community interventions.

Alice also works part-time as Research Support Convenor and Network Development Consultant for the e/merge Africa Network (www.emergeafrica.net) which is involved in the professional development of African educational technologists in Higher Education. One of her roles involves leading the pilot implementation of an international collaborative research support initiative that targets emerging researchers associated with AECT and e/merge Africa networks.

Social responsibilities include being:

1. Chairperson of Restless Development SA Board of Trustees 

2. Board member of SchoolNet South Africa 

3. Board member of Institute of Training and Education for Capacity Building (ITEC) South Africa

4. Priest in the Anglican Diocese of Grahamstown, South Africa
